Phone Security Tips:
- Don't answer calls from numbers you do not recognize. Let the calls go to voicemail or your answering machine. Most of the time, these are robocalls. Fraudsters are getting smarter and smarter everyday though and they are now spoofing telephone numbers to be numbers you may recognize - so be on the lookout for these as well.
- Beware of Vishing. Vishing is when fraudsters ask for your personal information and/or bank account details over the phone. Never give your personal information over the phone. If you feel a call is suspicious, call the company directly to verify the authenticity of the call.
- Fraudsters are also trying to scam you using your cell phone. Smishing aims to access your personal information via SMS (texting). Do not click on any links sent to you by text message - especially sent from numbers you do not recognize.
- Beware of organizations asking for charitable donations. If you want to donate money, contact the organizations yourself to make sure that your money is going to the appropriate place.
